TeslaCorsa Event #2 was again hosted at Buttonwillow Raceway on January 27th. We had more than 50 drivers out on the track, as well as quite a few more Tesla owners and enthusiasts spectating.
Like the first TeslaCorsa event, the day began with a driver's meeting that helped get everyone acquainted with the layout of Buttonwillow Raceway, as well as the rules for driving on a racetrack. This included classroom instruction of how the safety flag systems worked, as well as basic driving tips.
We also provided individually-numbered "TESLACORSA" door cards for everyone, which helped to identify cars while on the track (as well as provide a taste of the "racing experience").
As we had quite a few experienced drivers joining us this time around, we split up the event into two groups: one for those new to driving on the track, or who wanted a more relaxed pace, and a second for those who had more experience and wanted to push their Teslas a bit harder.
Since it was a first time experience for many of those that attended, we structured the first session of the day for the Beginner Group to have a couple of the seasoned drivers lead the group around track. This "lead-follow" instruction style helped everyone get a basic familiarization with the layout of Buttonwillow, as well as get some practice following the safety flag system.
We were fortunate enough to be joined by a few members of Tesla's corporate marketing team, who brought along their impressive Model S camera car, which featured a huge robotic camera arm attached to the roof! They captured some great on and off-track footage of the cars, as well as interviews with some of the driver-owners in attendance.
We staggered the sessions for each of the groups in order to allow for sufficient time to eat, relax with their fellow owners, as well as top-off the charges on their cars, if needed.
For those who started in the Beginner group and felt comfortable on-track, we offered the opportunity to graduate up to the faster-paced, Advanced group.
During the break, we were joined by a few more Tesla owners, and everyone took some time to grab lunch, chat and get to know each other. It was a great opportunity for fellow enthusiasts to come together and share in their passion for Tesla vehicles!
The final sessions of the day saw the fastest lap times for many of the drivers new to driving their Teslas on the track. Many of them were amazed at how comfortable they had become at driving cars on a circuit!
At the conclusion of the day, everyone headed back to the Superchargers to "fill-up" for the drive home.
We've had many requests for future events outside of Southern California, and we're working to bring TeslaCorsa to a racetrack near you. For 2019, we are currently in the planning stages for more locations, including racetracks on the West Coast, East Coast, and the Southern United States as well as the first international events in, Canada, Europe, Asia, and Dubai.
For anyone interested in attending any future event, please make sure to sign up on our mailing list (the form is found on the homepage). List members will have early registration access and have the best chance of attending events before they sell out.
Thanks again for everyone that attended for your support!!
