Buttonwillow Raceway Park again played host to over 50 participating Tesla drivers, as well as many Tesla-owning spectators. We saw a large number of Tesla Model 3s and a few P100D Model S vehicles out on track.
Like past TeslaCorsa events, the day started with the usually safety instruction followed by the first on-track sessions of the day. We saw a lot of amazing improvements from drivers through the course of the day, with nearly everyone hitting personal best times.
However, this event was particularly noteworthy, as we had a special guest in attendance...
Racecar driver Randy Pobst, well known in automotive circles for his prodigious on-track expertise, but special to the Tesla community as the man behind the optimization of Tesla’s Track Mode feature.
Randy provided an hour of detailed lessons on how to get the most out of your Tesla on track, as well as some insight into is background with motorsports and his involvement in the development process of Track Mode.
This was followed by additional sessions for all of the drivers. Randy also ran several sessions to evaluate and provide feedback on some Unplugged Performance-tuned cars. In addition, Randy provided some instructional sessions with Tesla owners.
You can see his video driving well known Youtuber Erik’s Model 3 here:
Some of the other drivers in attendance took Randy out in their Model 3s, getting some some pro tips in the process! Check out Sof's video below:
We staggered the sessions for each of the groups in order to allow for sufficient time to eat, relax with their fellow owners, as well as top-off the charges on their cars, if needed.
For those who started in the Beginner group and felt comfortable on-track, we offered the opportunity to graduate up to the faster-paced, Advanced group.
After all the sessions had finished for the day we wrapped up with another nearly hour long private Q&A with Randy from the attendees and wrapped up the event comparing notes from all the drivers.
You can see a portion of the Q&A session here:
The final sessions of the day saw the fastest lap times for many of the drivers new to driving their Teslas on the track. Many of them were amazed at how comfortable they had become at driving cars on a circuit!
At the conclusion of the day, everyone headed back to the Superchargers to "fill-up" for the drive home.
Finally, we gathered the drivers who had stuck around until sunset for some group photos in the paddock before heading home for the night.
We wanted to say a big “THANK YOU!” to Randy Pobst for his enthusiastic participation in the event. We are also very grateful to everyone who came out to provide great photo and video content including Erik, Sofiian, Mike of TinySponsor.com, Craig @fromwhereicharge, Taylor Broadsky @teslaphotographer, Alvin of everydayisyourbirthday.com, Steven Chan, and many more!
For anyone interested in attending any future event, please make sure to sign up on our mailing list (the form is found on the homepage). List members will have early registration access and have the best chance of attending events before they sell out.
Thanks again for everyone that attended for your support!!
