RECAP: Inaugural Event – October 21, 2018

The inaugural Tesla Corsa event, which took place on October 21st at Buttonwillow Raceway, was a huge success! We had more than 20 Tesla owners who spent the day learning the ins-and-outs of their cars on track, and even more who came out to enjoy the company of fellow Tesla enthusiasts.

The primarily goal of Tesla Corsa is for everyone to have an accessible, fun, and safe time enjoying their Tesla vehicles in a real racing environment. As a result, the day began early with a driver's meeting that helped get everyone acquainted with the layout of Buttonwillow Raceway, as well as the rules for driving on a racetrack. This included classroom instruction of how the safety flag systems worked, as well as basic driving tips.

Since it was a first time experience for many of those that attended, we structured the first session of the day to have a couple of the seasoned drivers lead the group around track. This "lead-follow" instruction style helped everyone get a basic familiarization with the layout of Buttonwillow, as well as get some practice following the safety flag system.

The second and third sessions gave everyone the chance to set out on the track at their own pace, with passing permitted using the "point-by" system.

Following the third session, we took a break for everyone to grab lunch, as well as head to the nearby Supercharger to top-off, if necessary.

During the break, we were joined by a few more Tesla owners, and everyone spent an hour or two chatting and getting to know each other.  It was a great opportunity for fellow enthusiasts to come together and share in their passion for Tesla vehicles!

We also took a short, group cruise through the wide open farmlands of California's Central Valley and stopped to take a few group photos.

The fourth session saw the fastest lap times of the day, with many of the drivers amazed at how comfortable they had become at driving cars on a circuit!

The final session was an opportunity for anyone that came to get out on the track for a few laps; whether you signed up for the full trackday or not. This was a no-cost experience, graciously sponsored by Unplugged Performance.

At the conclusion of the day, everyone headed back to the Superchargers to "fill-up" for the drive home.
