Twenty-eight drivers, six first-timers, and a full day of driving at Buttonwillow Raceway. TeslaCorsa45 brought together Tesla owners with varying levels of experience to develop their skills, explore their Tesla’s capabilities, and enjoy time with the community.

As hosts, one of our favorite parts was watching the beginners emotions run high with big smiles to show after their first session. Whether someone came to chase a personal best, test a new setup, or celebrate their birthday on track, everyone brought something to the day.

An Early Start at Buttonwillow

The day began at 8:00 a.m. as drivers checked in and picked up their TeslaCorsa vinyl decals and car numbers. Conversations were already underway throughout the paddock, with newcomers meeting fellow attendees and getting ready for their first laps. Our two-person content team was also on-site, capturing photos and videos throughout the event.

Before the driving began, we gathered for the mandatory drivers meeting to review flag meanings, track etiquette, and expectations for the sessions ahead. It was an opportunity to make sure everyone understood how to communicate and conduct themselves on track, and to answer questions before heading out.

Getting Up to Speed

At 9:20 a.m., 11 advanced drivers headed out for the opening session. Some were working toward personal bests, while others were practicing left-foot braking, testing suspension adjustments, or simply enjoying time behind the wheel.

That mix of goals carried through the day. With 8 intermediate drivers joining our six beginners, there were plenty of opportunities to exchange experiences and learn from one another.

Next came the beginner and intermediate session. Every beginner was paired with an instructor to help them understand the circuit and guide them through their first laps. There were a few nervous faces before heading out, but the opening session ran smoothly.

Back in the paddock, drivers checked their lap times, with early laps including 2:20, 2:16, and 2:11. For our team, the highlight was seeing the beginners return, smiling and eager to talk about what they had experienced.

Learning Between Sessions

After the opening sessions, we held a debrief to hear how drivers were feeling and work through their questions. Conversations covered brakes, tire pressures, body roll, and what drivers were noticing about their cars on track.

Some attendees were already talking about what they wanted to change before their next event. Others were still taking in the excitement of completing their first session.

These conversations are a big part of TeslaCorsa. Drivers can share what they felt behind the wheel, ask instructors questions, and compare experiences with other owners. One attendee even joined us to celebrate their birthday, and we were happy to be part of it.

Lunch and a Reflex Challenge

Around midday, we gathered for lunch and continued the conversations between sessions. We also brought out a reflex challenge, testing how quickly attendees could catch a falling plastic pole.

The game gave everyone a reason to come together, share a few laughs, and meet someone new. Each participant received a hat afterward.

As much as we enjoy the driving, these moments around the paddock help make the event feel like a community.

Afternoon Heat and Ride-Alongs

Temperatures climbed to approximately 105°F during the later sessions, making hydration a priority as the day continued.

Our advanced drivers also offered ride-alongs to beginner and intermediate attendees. Getting into the passenger seat with a more experienced driver gave them another perspective on the circuit and an opportunity to experience a different approach to driving it.

Seeing experienced attendees share their time and enthusiasm with newer drivers was another highlight for us as hosts.
